I went to see the new War Of The Worlds movie last night. I already knew that the story had been transplanted from 19th century England to 21st century America but I was still hopeful that Spielberg had retained the feel of H G Wells' story. I was disappointed. What was wrong with the hero trying to save his fiancé? Why does it he have to be a divorced father trying to save his estranged son and daughter? The original story is a classic, it started the whole genre of alien invasion movies. It didn't need Hollywood schmaltz and it certainly didn't need a new version of how the alien machines got to earth. What was wrong with them flying through space and landing on earth? Why did they have to have been buried on earth millions of years ago? Naturally Spielberg has produced some superb special effects but after a while they become boring. This is yet another example of a Hollywood movie where the story takes a backseat to the action. It's just not good enough. "I love you Daddy" *PUKE*
